Having a Better Golf Swing
The first time you hold a golf club, you may get that feeling
of wanting to hit the ball as hard as possible, completely
knocking the cover right off. Being able to use a lot of
strength behind your swing and hitting the ball can be
exhilarating. However, just because you can hit the ball as
hard as possible does not mean you will have a good golf game.
It may be a good way to relieve some stress and work out some
unwanted emotions, but it will not accomplish your goals of
having a great golf game. Playing golf well has more to do it
with knowing when to use that strength and when to hold back a
little.
Which means one of the biggest mistakes that new golfers make
is hitting the ball too hard. Being able to hit the ball hard
does not mean that you have accuracy in your swing. Accuracy
is of course much more important in the game of golf. Being
able to relax when you are swinging will lessen the power
behind the swing, however you will also have better chance of
achieving the strike you are looking for with the ball.
Placing your feet closer together will also limit the amount
of power behind your swing. When you become tense, you end
putting too much force again into the swing.
Also, your center of gravity becomes very important as well.
Making sure you keep your center of gravity stationary and
keeping your head down and still is equally important. Keeping
your feet in the same place throughout the entire swing will
also improve your stability. When you move your body about and
jerk your body around, you are not focusing on the ball; your
head will move and break your concentration.
